Ride to school and stay on track!
Thanks to a Queensland Government community road safety grant, the Moreton Bay Ramp Up scheme has designed a program which teaches primary school aged children about road rules, safety and equipment. This will equip students with the safety skills needed to be able to ride to and from school using either a bike, scooter or skateboard.
Between eight and ten primary schools will be selected to participate in the program, which will include a presentation, followed by a hands-on practical element. This face-to-face interactive learning is then coupled with brochures and take home packs to further spread the message.
Through the grant, Ramp Up is able to:
- Improve safety and knowledge of primary school road users
- Instil confidence in parents that their children have safety skills on the road
- Increase the number of primary school students riding to and from school
- Reduce congestion around schools with private vehicles
