Queensland Road Safety Week 2015
This year the Queensland Government launched the first ever state-wide road safety event, Queensland Road Safety Week, which ran from August 17 – 21.
The idea of a road safety week for Queensland grew out of a desire to increase grassroots community engagement on road safety encourage discussions on complex road safety issues and encourage all Queenslanders to understand their role in eliminating road trauma.
Hundreds of events were held across Queensland during the week, providing the community with many great opportunities to speak up for road safety - the theme of this year's event.
Each day of the week focused on a different road safety behaviour kicking off with ‘distractions’ on Monday, ‘speed’ on Tuesday, ‘fatigue and restraints’ on Wednesday, ‘sharing the road’ on Thursday, and ‘drink and drug driving’ on Friday.
Different road user groups were well represented throughout the week with a number of targeted activities including walk to school events to encourage child pedestrian safety, fatigue education for truckies, safe towing events for holiday makers, as well as several organised bicycle and motorcycle events.
Thank you to all the Queensland businesses and community groups who supported the events this year, in particular our key supporters - RACQ, CARRS-Q and MAIC.
